Sick
Even from early vacation in Scotland, I was starting to get sick with a cold. This carried on all the way to heading home where I thought I was over the worst of it. But - either the cold kicked into a new gear or I caught something totally different.
About four days ago, I’d been sick as a dog for a week. Wet coughs, raging fever, night sweats, and terrible body aches. I tested for Covid twice and it didn’t seem to be that.
What’s worse was, as a freelance contractor, I can’t take days off without losing that day’s rate so I kept working through it all as best as I could. But at least I work from home where I can stay in bed.
I finally started feeling a bit more human yesterday. Still coughing a bit but it’s just an irritating tickly dry one.
Speaking of Work
I’ve hit 60 days left on my existing contract. The state of the tech contracting market is dire at the moment so I really should shift my LinkedIn to Open for Work.
The current company I’m working with has told me they intend to renew me - and I would LOVE to renew - but I’ve had no confirmation about whether they’ve been able to secure budget for it. I think tomorrow I might reach out to my agency just to get them to poke from their end.
Misc
The .io Domain
Noticed on tantek.com that there’s an amount of risk of the .io domain going away, which is the top level domain of my business.
I’d heard rumours about it for a while now.
Even if they decided to close down .io tomorrow, it would still be on-air for at least 5 years so, until there’s a real decision and someone publicly announces it, I’m probably not going to make any plans about it and will continue to renew the domain.
That said, I already own the .co.uk version so there’s always that to fall back to.
I’m So Old
My eldest daughter turned 30 a few days ago. That’s a terrible milestone for me! We all went out for a meal and I bought her an “Up” Lego house, with a little kit to light it up.
Watching:
My youngest daughter and I have been watching Agatha All Along on Disney+ and it’s sooo goood! Highly recommended!
